Shoulder To Shoulder  I  Meitav Sharabi

This project was created from an innocent point of view on an intimate part of a religious life- the prayer when the individual confronts his creator.

The direction of prayer, marked in Judaism by the location of the Torah ark at the synagogue; and in Islam by the Mihrab- a niche in the Mosque’s wall, represents the differences between those two beliefs.

The Mihrab in the artwork is made of white concrete decorated with arabesque pattern, which is poured on the Torah ark and the mahogany wood that it is made of. A golden painted star of David is placed on top. Together it symbolizes the belief that despite the differences, we all pray to the same god. If we would face the same direction, we could stand shoulder to shoulder in a message of a strong connection and a joint future.
